Introduction
Ogwen Cottage Outdoor Pursuits Centre is situated in the very
heart of the mountains of Snowdonia, one of Britain's most beautiful National Parks.
Lofty peaks, lakes and rivers abound; a superb environment for learning in the outdoors.
This is where the experienced Centre staff conduct their activity sessions.
In the late spring, summer and early autumn; rock climbing, mountain
walking, camping and canoeing all take place within a ten mile radius of the Centre.
Inclement weather and winter conditions take us further afield but there is always lots
to do.

The Centre borders the A5 as it curves its way around the shores
of Llyn Ogwen. The original building has been inexistence for some two centuries. Today,
carefully planned extensions can accomodate 30 pupils in five comfortable dormitory style
rooms, each with separate accommodation for four visiting staff. A lounge with a coffee bar
provides a room for relaxation, a game of pool or table football. Modern drying room
facilities lead out to the equipment and stores area. All items of equipment are provided
free of charge.

Birmingham City Councils' Education Department owns Ogwen Cottage. It
was originally purchased in 1964 to provide courses, supporting the findings of the Newsome
report, for years 10 and 11 pupils. The courses are six days in duration, Sunday to Friday,
and a typical school programme includes the following activities:
- Rock climbing in a multi-pitch environment
- Mountain walking
- Canoeing and kayaking
- Orienteering
- Sea level girdling
- Gorge walking
- Camping
- Skiing

The Centre is committed to providing the very best course for the
young people from the City of Birmigham. Over 75% of the City's secondary schools use the
Centre and annual occupancy levels are in excess of 90%. The popularity of our courses
necessitates an application by 31st March for a booking during the following Educational year.
Details of a typical programme can be found by clicking here.
