Travel Arrangements
For many years contractors in the North Wales area have provided an excellent service. The City is no longer responsible for booking coaches for courses to this Centre. Each school will be required to make their own arrangements. Williams Coaches, Deiniolen, previously held the contract for Ogwen and the majority of schools still book with this Company. As you may realise, the cost of a coach booked in North Wales is considerably less than any booked in the City area, and travelling from North Wales has been the pattern for decades.
There are obvious advantages with this arrangement. Weather conditions, particularly during winter months, occasionally necessitate the coach being called earlier than usual and possible emergencies can be dealt with far more easily with a phone call to a company only a few miles away. We have always experienced first class service and co-operation from this company.
Each school will need to enter into a contract with the 'bus company', and given the requirements for many Sunday bookings and lack of a formal contract from the Authority, it would seem prudent for schools to organise their transport requirements with the company as soon as possible, whether a six for five day course is planned.
Arrival time at the Centre on a Sunday is 4pm to 4.30pm. Coaches leave schools in Birmingham at 1.30pm. Departure from the Centre on a Friday is at 1.30pm. Schools can expect to be back in Birmingham by 5pm. If a Monday course is planned coaches depart schools in Birmingham anytime between 8am and 9am. Recently schools departing on a Monday morning have, in the main, opted for an early start to avoid traffic congestion and ensure an arrival before lunch.
